Borneo Mission Trip
Keith and I will be going on a mission trip to Borneo in March for two weeks to build two churches.
Nearly ten years ago Upper Columbia Academy sent its first group of short term missionaries to the Iban people in the jungles of Borneo to build a church. From this small beginning, the opportunity for ministry in Borneo has increased rapidly. Because UCA has returned each spring break to the same area, we have established an ongoing relationship with the Borneo Mission and its church members. This partnership has had a compounding effect. In fact, since UCA students have begun building churches, Borneo youth have begun similar evangelism and building projects. According to Gilbert Tan (the local mission leader) baptisms have tripled in Borneo the past two years, and the demand for more churches is exploding.
One of the unique aspects of the trip is that students see the result of the gospel seed planted in years past by fellow students. They see entire longhouses converting to Christ as a result of evangelism through medical/dental teams, church building, preaching, vacation Bible schools, and friendship. These trips have changed the lives of many UCA students.
God is continuing to open doors for us to experience this frontline, hands-on, heart changing mission opportunity. This year we will build two more churches down the river from last years’ projects near Julau town. The main chief of this area has recently become an Seventh-day Adventist Christian and is opening the forty longhouses under his jurisdiction to UCA ministry. What an opportunity!
A trip of this magnitude takes considerable time, money, and effort. Keith and I personally sense God leading us to be an active part in Borneo Mission Trip 2008. We are committing ourselves to this project and are inviting you to partner with us. $2,350.00 per person covers the costs of transportation, church building, outreach, food, and lodging. So far, Keith has raised $975 from his bicycle trip this last summer. We ask you to help us cover the cost of these expenses.
Please make your donations payable to Upper Columbia Academy (3025 E Spangle Waverly Road, Spangle, WA 99031) clearly marked for “Borneo 2008.” You will receive a receipt and a non-profit status statement for tax purposes. Also please put our names somewhere on your contribution so it will be properly credited. You may also donate online with Paypal by selecting Other and indicating the donation is for “Borneo 2008 – Wade.”
Whether or not you are able to contribute to this mission effort, please keep the mission trip in your prayers. We will put updates on this site about the trip both before and after the trip. Thank you for considering our request.
